From Infection And OT Confusion To Standing Again

Some days feel like a gauntlet: a hip that’s healing, an incision that went itchy-to-infected, a possible pneumonia flare, and a tangle of OT and PT notes that don’t quite line up. We walked through the whole maze with honesty, humor, and one bright anchor—standing again after a string of setbacks. That single moment of progress reframed the day and gave us a target to steer toward: by April, walk to the bathroom on our own.
We talk about what makes recovery so mentally hard: not just pain or fatigue, but mixed instructions that burn precious energy. Clear occupational therapy goals matter. Accessible physical therapy routines matter. So do the small rituals that keep you going—antibiotics on time, breathing treatments to keep lungs calm, and permission to check in with school tomorrow instead of pushing past exhaustion today. Along the way, a surprise delivery shifts the mood: a cat made of flowers carrying a tiny medical bag, plus chocolates. Support like that is more than cute; it’s fuel for resilience.
We also open the door to what’s next. The show is moving to Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we’re planning a feature on Special Olympics, spotlighting lived experience, training, and community. And yes, there’s a spicy take: Apple’s move into video podcasting doesn’t serve listeners who are driving or juggling life; we’re staying audio‑only to keep the show safe, accessible, and focused. Expect more real talk, fewer medical play‑by‑plays, and steady progress behind the scenes. If this story gave you a nudge—whether you’re navigating rehab, chronic illness, or just a hard week—hit play, share it with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a quick review so others can find the show.
Health Setbacks After Surgery
SPEAKER_00Welcome to a different shapes hunt, you guys. Okay. Let me cut to the chaser. Okay, as you guys know, I had a hip replacement. Well, I now have a infection because my incident was itchy. So scratchy scratchy turned into an infection. Great. Now I'm on antibiotics. And the next thing is that I went to the most confusing occupational therapy evaluation ever. My aid was there and she and I got totally confused. And um and then someone else had to break it down to her what the PT said the PT the OT um said and I'm just so confused by this O OT, but we're gonna work things out. So now add to my plate OT along with PT, along with school, um, me going back to school, which I think I'm gonna check in tomorrow not today. School for me started today, but I think I'm going to check in some more because I'm so exhausted from today. So I'm on antibiotics four times a day for scratchy scratchy infection, which is the green and it's disgusting. And to top things off, I may have pneumonia again, which I had a mobile chest x-ray today, so um pneumonia, scratchy, scratchy infection, PT, OT, and um but the good news is I stood today, so um maybe by April I'll be able to walk to the bathroom. Maybe but um we'll see it's the beginning of March now, so I think by the beginning of April um I'll be able to skid out all on my own. And let's hope I'll be able to skid out all on my own. And then um after the longest day of appointments, the longest day of hell, basically, um it I got a text message from my 12 house saying you just had flowers delivered. Well, I got a cutest kitty cat and chocolates, mind you. Kindy cat holding uh medical bag flowers. So the cat's made out of flowers. He or she or it has flowers around it. The cat is holding medical bag, and that's from dear friends of mine. An asphan somehow got on 1-800 flowers.com and sent me flowers. Now they know my address. If you guys want to send me anything, you're more than welcome to it. I mean I can put my address in the show notes and you guys can send me anything that you guys want. And on top of everything else, I had to do a breathing treatment just to make sure that um my lungs are clear. So anyway, I'm exhausted from all that and I still have one more dose of antibiotics to boot. And so yeah, it's been an exhausting day, but we'll get through the infections and we'll get through the what supposedly is gnome. We'll get through it all. And so yeah, we'll get through it all and make sure that I have enough strength to carry on, but I'm very hopeful, as I said, by the end of April to um be walking to the bathroom. By mid-April to be walking to the bathroom. And now I'll uh turn it over to Daniel and so Danielle, do you want to leave us out? Yeah, yeah, oh, yeah. Thank you for following us, you guys. And if I sound if my voice doesn't sound strong, that's because I've just finished amazing treatment and I'm lying in bed. So maybe one of these days I'm able to stay up and do a podcast because I'm also hopeful to the end of April now and take note of this. We'll be talking about this on Thursday actually. Uh um or whenever we record this, we'll be talking about Special Olympics because my friend, my co-host, my BFF, did Special Olympics, so we'll be talking about her experience on that. And also, the show is now coming out on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so taking note of that. Also, we're not doing this, but eventually I want my opinion on this and then the other opinion on this. Apple finally, in my opinion, did something really stupid because you can't do it. Apple finally um announced, oh, we're doing video podcasting now. That is the stupidest thing ever because you can't watch an Apple podcast while you're driving. And so video podcasting is the stupidest thing ever. And apples finally joined. No, we're leaving a different shape on as audio. It's tough enough with CP as a woman to do a podcast. And so eventually I'll get Dan Yo's opinion on that, and I'll go into deep dives on my opinion, but um we'll leave that for different day. And the next episode you'll hear about um the Special Olympics, and no more talk about my hip. I'm done talking about my hip. I'm done talking about sickness. I I'm just done with it. No more talking about my leg, no more talking about my hip. I'm just done with it. I'm still ready to jump out of this bed, it's not even funny, and thank you for following us. And I'm gonna let Danny Yoke go put a PJs on, and I'm gonna go figure out what tomorrow means, and I'll catch you guys later. Bye you guys.
unknownBye.
